ADEP FAQs
- Can I get a degree through the Aldersgate program without ever setting foot on the GBSC campus?
You may take up to 75% of your courses from GBS completely online. The other 25% of your coursework will be taken through blended classes (part online, part on-campus). In a blended class, you start your coursework from home online, then you come to campus for a block session that ranges from two to four days (depending on the credit hours and the structure of the course). After the block session, the rest of the class assignments are finished online.
You will only come to campus once for each blended class. Students who take more than one course per semester might be able to complete two or three block sessions in a single week, so that their trips to campus are minimized. Many students choose to complete more than the required 25% of their course work in blended classes, as they enjoy the “face-time” they have with their teachers and fellow classmates. While you may be able to limit your trips to campus to one visit per year, you will find the time spent together rewarding enough to make several visits, often coming for all scheduled block weeks. Click here for more information on the schedule of block sessions.
Most of our courses are available as blended classes offered on about a three-year cycle, so that you will be able take many more of these classes than the minimum required.
- Will the degree I obtain from the Aldersgate program be considered a “real” degree?
Yes, it will. GBSC is fully accredited by both the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Association for Biblical Higher Education. All GBSC degrees are therefore fully accredited. The transcripts, diplomas, and degrees received through the Aldersgate program are the same as those received through the regular program. In addition, the course delivery methods that the Aldersgate program utilizes will make your educational experience comparable to what you would receive if you were to come on campus as a regular student.
- Will my previous college credits transfer over to an Aldersgate degree program?
This largely depends on how well the previous courses match the degree requirements for GBSC. Transcript evaluations will be done. Grades C or above are potentially transferable.
- Will the college credits that I obtain from the Aldersgate program transfer over to another college?
Again, this largely depends on how well the courses taken match up to the other school’s requirements. Though every school has the right to accept or reject any credits, GBSC’s accreditation will help immensely.
- Can I receive college credit for life experience?
To a limited extent, GBSC does give life experience credit when the student can provide evidence of competence/knowledge in a particular subject area. Documentation will need to be provided. If you think you have enough background/education in certain areas (that you have not previously received college credit for), please talk to us about this possibility.
