Office of the President
Michael R. Avery
Michael Avery was born and raised in the small, rural community of Friendship, Alabama. His faith and values are a product of his Wesleyan Methodist roots. He was converted at the age of seventeen and felt a call to ministry shortly thereafter. He is a graduate of God’s Bible School and College (BRE) and Cincinnati Bible Seminary (MA). He was honored with a doctor of divinity degree from Wesley Biblical Seminary in 1998.
He pastored with the Bible Methodist Church for 10 years, served as a denominational leader for 5 years, served as General Missionary Secretary for the Bible Methodist Connection of Churches for 5 years, and has served as the President of God’s Bible School and College since 1995. He maintains an active schedule of speaking in camp meetings, revivals, conventions, and conferences.
His wife Ruth, a 1980 GBS graduate, and he have two married sons and two lovely daughters-in-law. Josh (GBS ’02) and Faith (GBS ’03-’05) live in Schenectady, NY, where Josh is a graduate student at the University of Albany. Faith works with British American Development. They attend the Schenectady Pilgrim Holiness Church. Jon (GBS ’05) and Beth (GBS ’06) live in Cincinnati. Jon is an accountant with Deloitte and Touche and Beth teaches for Aldersgate Christian Academy. They attend the Kenwood Bible Methodist Church.
His hobbies are reading and work (he loves to landscape, garden and operate equipment). He pitches every year for the “Stiff and Stars” softball game at the GBS fall picnic. So far the Stiffs have a winning record.
