CDCA Preliminary Licensure

Pathway 1

Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA Prelim Licensure)

The Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) Preliminary Licensure Pathway is designed for students who want to quickly enter the addiction recovery field.

This one-year, 6 credit pathway provides the foundational coursework needed to pursue CDCA preliminary licensure in Ohio. This coursework may be incorporated into any degree program at GBSC.

Program Highlights

  • Complete in one year
  • Only 6 credit hours (Introduction to Addiction Studies I & II)
  • Prepare for entry-level positions in addiction treatment settings
  • Learn the foundations of addiction counseling from a Christian perspective
  • Coursework may be applied toward the full Addiction Studies degree pathway later

Bachelor of Arts (BA) – 4 year degree

  • Campus degree

BA Integrative Studies w/Cognate in Counseling and Addiction Studies

For students seeking long-term careers in addiction counseling and recovery services, the BA in Integrative Studies with cognates in Counseling and Addiction Studies provides comprehensive preparation for addiction treatment, counseling, and leadership roles.

This four-year degree combines addiction studies, counseling, psychology, sociology, and biblical studies to prepare graduates for professional practice.

Important Licensure Information

Completion of the Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies does not result in automatic licensure.

Graduates who wish to become licensed as an LCDC II or III must complete all requirements established by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, including:

  • Completion of the approved educational program
  • Application to the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board
  • Required examinations (if applicable)
  • 2,000 hours of addiction-related work experience following graduation
  • Any additional requirements established by the Board

Students should consult the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board and their academic advisor for the most current licensure requirements.
